Project Overview
This showroom project in Bahrain required a movable frameless glass wall solution that maximizes visual transparency while maintaining full operability. The specification called for 12mm tempered glass panels mounted via a top-hunge system, completely eliminating the need for a floor track. The result is a seamless, unobstructed partition that allows the showroom floor to remain clean and uninterrupted.
Step 1 — Top-Hunge Mounting System Design
The core engineering decision centers on a top-hunge mechanism that bears the entire weight of each glass panel from the overhead structure. Steel reinforcement is embedded within the ceiling slab to distribute loads evenly across multiple anchor points. Each hunge assembly includes precision-machined pivot brackets that allow smooth 180-degree rotation, enabling panels to stack neatly against the wall when the showroom needs an open layout.
Step 2 — 12mm Tempered Glass Panel Specification
Each panel uses 12mm clear tempered glass, heat-treated to meet international safety standards for commercial partitions. The thickness provides sufficient rigidity for panels reaching up to 3 meters in height without visible flexing. Edges are finely polished with a subtle flat-polish finish, and all corners receive safety chamfering. The frameless design means no aluminum profiles surround the glass, preserving the pure transparency that luxury showrooms demand.
Step 3 — Floor Track Elimination Strategy
By removing the floor track entirely, the installation achieves a completely flat threshold between divided spaces. This is critical in showroom environments where product displays, vehicle exhibits, or furniture arrangements must flow without physical barriers. Floor guides are replaced with minimal ceiling-mounted stabilization channels that keep panels aligned during operation while remaining invisible from the visitor's perspective.
Step 4 — Installation and Alignment Process
Installation begins with laser-level marking of all overhead anchor positions, ensuring each hunge point aligns perfectly along the partition axis. Steel mounting plates are secured to the reinforced ceiling structure using chemical anchors rated for the calculated load. Glass panels are then lifted into position using suction-cup handling equipment, attached to the hunge brackets, and fine-tuned for plumb alignment. Final adjustments ensure every panel slides and rotates with consistent, effortless movement.
Step 5 — Quality Verification and Handover
Before handover, every panel undergoes a comprehensive operational test covering full rotation cycles, latching engagement, and acoustic performance. Seal gaps between panels are verified to meet the specified tolerance, ensuring adequate sound attenuation when the wall is fully closed. The client receives operational training on panel management, and a maintenance schedule is provided to keep the hunge mechanisms performing smoothly over the long term.
