What does NEUWALL manufacture?

NEUWALL manufactures two product families. Operable partition walls are solid acoustic panels that park against a track end when the opening is closed, so a ballroom, conference hall or office floor can be reconfigured without rebuilding. Movable glass walls use frameless tempered glass panels that divide spaces while keeping sightlines and daylight.

Every operable system is top-hung: panels ride on a ceiling-mounted track and the floor is left clear, which is why operable partitions are installed after floor finishes. Standard systems are operated manually; NW840-W is also available with semi-automatic and fully automatic drives for large openings moved several times a day.

How does NEUWALL build an acoustic wall?

Acoustic performance comes from the panel construction rather than from a surface finish. A NEUWALL panel combines a welded internal frame, a dense mineral wool core, rigid facings on both sides and a perimeter seal that closes the gap between adjacent panels when the wall is extended.

On the NW840-W steel system the construction is a 2 mm welded heavy-duty galvanized steel frame with an 80 kg/m³ acoustic rock wool core, 12 mm facings, and a standard 1.2 mm galvanized steel underside. The vertical joint uses a single-piece male and female interlocking profile — one continuous section rather than two abutting profiles — which increases the interlocking depth between panels and therefore reduces sound leakage through the joint. Panels are available with a trimless edge or a trimmed edge, in MDF, steel, fabric, wood veneer or bare faces for field-applied finishing.

Seals are deployed by a waist-height jack mechanism operated from a control handle, so the wall can be opened and closed without reaching overhead. Top and bottom edges use four-finger sweep seals, which give roughly 40% more seal contact points than previous generations and bear directly on the floor and ceiling to close the perimeter gap. Seals must be retracted before any panel is moved; operating a wall with its seals extended causes permanent damage.

How tall can an operable wall be?

NEUWALL's maximum height is 18,000 mm (59 ft), achieved with the NW840-W steel-framed platform. Standard aluminium systems reach 4,000 mm (NW831, NG840) and 6,000 mm (NW840). Above roughly 6 m the installation requires a purpose-designed steel support structure at ceiling level, and the allowable height is set by that structure rather than by the panel.

How soundproof are NEUWALL operable walls?

NEUWALL panels are rated Rw per ISO 717-1, the laboratory airborne-sound standard. The range is Rw 40 dB at the entry level to Rw 55 dB at the top of the range.

For projects specified under US practice, the NW840-W system additionally carries a verified STC 55 dB rating tested to ASTM E90 (report XMIN180500970CCM).

Rw and STC are different measurements and are not interchangeable. Rw follows ISO 717-1; STC follows ASTM E413 derived from an ASTM E90 test. Neither value is converted, averaged or derived from the other, and a published Rw figure does not imply an STC rating. Where a project requires an STC rating, specify the system and confirm the test report in writing.

What fire ratings do NEUWALL wall surfaces carry?

Surface materialTest standardRating
HPL (high-pressure laminate)BS 476 Part 7Class 1
VinylASTM E84Class A
MDF coreEN 13501-1B-s1, d0
BS 476 (UK) and ASTM E84 (US) are different test standards with different criteria; ratings are not equivalent between them and must not be substituted. UL listing and CE marking status depend on the specific configuration and are confirmed per project. Test reports are available on request.

How durable is the track and trolley system?

The aluminium track and trolley assemblies passed a 40,000-cycle durability test conducted by SGS on 2018-06-06, following BS 4875-7:2006 L3 and ISO 7170:2005 clause 7.2.3. All cycles passed. The test covers 1,000 mm of travel per cycle at 6–15 cycles per minute, with lubrication every 10,000 cycles.

Track capacity varies by system: the NW80 aluminium track is rated to approximately 450–480 kg/m with a maximum panel weight of 380 kg over spans to 5 m; the NW100 track is rated to approximately 650 kg/m with up to 650 kg per panel over spans to 6 m. Panels must be kept centred within 762 mm of the track centreline, and the ceiling void must be checked for obstructions and flanking sound paths.

What is the warranty on NEUWALL operable walls?

Panels are warranted for 2 years. The track and trolley system is warranted for 5 years. Both run from the date of the substantial-completion certificate. The warranty requires that the wall is installed by a factory-trained or authorised NEUWALL representative.

Where does NEUWALL manufacture and ship?

Panels are manufactured at NEUWALL's own facility in Guangzhou, China and shipped under HTS classification 9403.60.8080. Typical terms are CIF Nansha. Each project is supplied against its own approved submittal, shop drawings and structural calculations — standard sections are shown on the drawings only as reference and do not replace project-specific design.

Where are NEUWALL operable walls used?

Ballrooms and hotel function spaces · convention and conference centres · offices and meeting rooms · showrooms and retail · schools and places of worship · government and civic buildings · airport and transport interiors · atrium and multi-storey voids.

Frequently asked questions

Is NEUWALL a manufacturer or a trading company?

NEUWALL is a manufacturer. Panels are produced at its own Guangzhou facility, which includes aluminium extrusion, panel processing and factory pre-assembly, established in 2009.

Does NEUWALL supply operable walls to the United States?

Yes. The United States is a primary market. Systems are supplied to US specifications where applicable, and the NW840-W platform carries a US-tested STC 55 dB rating under ASTM E90.

What is the maximum height of a NEUWALL operable wall?

18,000 mm (59 ft), using the NW840-W steel-framed system. Standard aluminium systems reach 4,000 mm and 6,000 mm. Walls above approximately 6 m require a designed steel support structure at ceiling level.

Are NEUWALL operable walls motorized?

Yes. The NW840-W platform is available in manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic drive configurations. These are three different levels of automation and are specified separately — powered drive changes how the seals are operated, not how sound isolation is achieved.

Which NEUWALL system is used for hotels and ballrooms?

NW831 for openings to 4,000 mm, NW840 for folding panels to 6,000 mm, and NW840-W where the opening exceeds 6 m or is moved frequently. Ballrooms in 5-star properties typically use NW840-W with a fully automatic drive; function rooms with occasional use are commonly specified in NW840.

What is the difference between Rw and STC?

Rw is a laboratory rating under ISO 717-1; STC is a rating under ASTM E413 derived from an ASTM E90 test. They use different reference curves and are not interchangeable. NEUWALL publishes Rw values for all systems and a verified STC 55 dB rating for NW840-W.

Where can I see NEUWALL reference projects?

Project case studies are published under Case Studies, covering hotels, government and civic buildings, showrooms, convention centres and glazed-wall installations. A Request a Quote enquiry can also be answered with project-specific references relevant to your region.
